Wiki Article: Thomond Park
I was part of the Shanagolden group along with three other students, Ronan, Ronan and Cathal. We chose to do a wiki article rather than a video project because we were all in different counties. The wiki page allowed each group member to see the changes that had been made and to add their own contribution in real-time.
I organised a WhatsApp call with the group soon after the assignment was released. During this call, we brainstormed ideas, chose our topic (Thomond Park) and divided the work into sections. I chose to do the introduction and the sports section. As I was the first group member to add content to the page, I found it difficult to use the wiki syntax as there was nothing on the page I could refer to. To overcome this, I referenced the week 6 slides, visited the MediaWiki page and watched tutorials on youtube.
I have visited Thomond Park several times, and I also visited the museum while in primary school. This meant I had quite a large amount of knowledge before I began doing my research. Nevertheless, I still learned some new things about the stadium. Before Maguires Pitches were built in UL, the UL Bohemians' home ground was Thomond Park!
I wrote the introduction first. Next, I added an image which I found difficult as the syntax required is complicated. Adding the image was probably the most time-consuming and difficult part of the project. Finally, I wrote my section on sport. Finding the information for this section was easy. I added a bullet point list to break up the text, which I think worked well. Referencing the information was quite tricky, but once I did it a few times, it became easier.
I really enjoyed taking part in creating this wiki page, and I would consider editing Wikipedia articles in the future.
